®PropellerAds has been one of the top traffic sources for affiliates for several years. They started with pop traffic (or, as they call it, on-click ads). All campaigns used to be managed, but after a few years and keeping up with the competition, they launched their self-serve platform, and they’re one of the networks that keep adding ad formats and stay on top of trends to make money and help both publishers and media buyers as well. We spent 6 figures with them just running pop traffic.
PropellerAds used to be one of the biggest pop traffic sources back in the day, and they were also one of the first networks to get into the web push notifications trend since 2017. Some networks caught up in 2018, and others have been thinking of adding push notifications, but it’s 2020, and they still don’t have it available.
PropellerAds has an excellent platform to create campaigns, add funds, create custom audiences, and analyze traffic volume to make everything easy for the media buyers. Here’s a quick look at the dashboard:
As for adding funds, Propeller allows you to pay with a credit card, Union Pay, PayPal, Skrill, and even American Express.

Aside from having a good interface to buy traffic, Propeller has traffic charts where you can plan your campaigns based on the daily volume of yesterday’s traffic. Here, you can select your ad type, country, OS, and devices and plan accordingly based on the number of impressions and bid rates, and get started with an Optimal CPM rate:
Here’s another example of push traffic. India and Brazil have been the top volume push countries in the last year, and the rates can be super cheap per click. Again, plan accordingly, and don’t forget to factor in the offer payout when defining your daily budgets.
As for creating a campaign, the process is straightforward. Perhaps the best feature of PropellerAds is having the total available traffic chart on the right side, which updates in real-time based on the settings and filters you select for your campaign. Most networks don’t have that feature, so you need to test and guess different bids as the tables only give you a generic view of the actual prices.
After selecting the type of campaign (Popunder, Push Notifications, Native Ads) and pricing model (CPM, CPC, SmartCPM, or CPA Goal 2.0), you need to upload your creatives.
In this example, I will be creating a push notification campaign, so we will need to write a title, description and upload images.
Propeller already allows you to upload multiple creatives in the same campaign to split test and optimize without duplicating campaigns. Use {bannerid} token to track the performance of each creative.
You’ll need to upload native, push, and interstitial ads creatives. For on-click ads (pops), you need your landing page URL.
In December 2019, a new Push notification ad type was introduced to Propeller Ads, which gained some traction. They are called In-page push notifications ads, and you can select them when creating a push campaign in your account:
The main difference between this type of ad vs. the typical push notifications is that the notifications are shown when the user visits the website and not after subscribing to a list.
This makes the traffic more targeted, and hopefully, we will see more networks adding this type of ad soon.
Here’s what an in-page push notification looks like:
Another advantage of using this type of ad is that they’re not limited to a browser or OS. So if you’ve been waiting for a couple of years to monetize iOS traffic with push finally, this is your chance 🙂
Let’s go back to the campaign creation process now.
PropellerAds has implemented some filters for traffic based on the quality and engagement of the users. First, they offer you buying Premium traffic from premium websites (more volume and better quality). Of course, this comes at a higher price, but it might be worth testing for your campaigns.
They also allow you to target all users or users based on activity (high, medium, or low CTR), and the prices change accordingly. Initially, I prefer testing with all users, but later, you can create 3 campaigns with different bids and test which database performs better for your offers.
After that, you’ll need to fill the regular stuff, like country, budget, devices, OS, and browser, and you’d do in any other network, and you’re good to go. Your campaign usually gets approved in less than 24 hours, depending on the time zone and day of the week.
Set up retargeting in the “audience” section. It’s available for all ad formats.
One last thing before sending your campaign your approval. There’s a Smart Optimization Tools menu that helps you auto-optimize your campaign based on a goal you establish, helping you get conversions for your target price. “The algorithm finds all ad placements (zones) that are not bringing conversions or where conversion price exceeds your target CPA value and automatically excludes them from your traffic sources,” mentioned in their blog.
For this feature to work, you need to configure your postback correctly from the tracker (I use Voluum) to the traffic source.
This is all you need to get started with PropellerAds. If you haven’t tested their traffic now, it’s a good time as they are one of the biggest push networks with a 500+ million subscriber user base, and also, they have recently added their Native Ad widgets (with both CPC and CPM bidding models). The support team is always online and waiting for you in the live chat, the blue icon in the lower right corner.
Some of the best verticals working with PropellerAds are dating (mainstream) sweepstakes, gambling, finance, COD, nutrition, betting, casino, e-commerce.

Finally, if you’re using Voluum or any similar tracker, this is how I set up my tracking tokens for pop under traffic at Propeller:
If you’re running push ads, you might need to tweak it a bit as the tokens are different, but Voluum has already included both profiles in their tracker, so load them, and you’ll be good to go.

Hi man.
It’s Sunday. Give them a couple of days to get back to the office and process your bonus.
If for some reason this hasn’t been sorted by Wednesday please let me know so I can tell my manager your email and fix it 🙂
Jay Dee says
PropellerAds used to be one of my top push sources. However ever since they changed the rules on what creatives/angles are allowed last October, I barely use it anymore. The creatives that they do approve get around 10x less CTR than my creatives that used to be allowed.
What are your thoughts on this?
servandosilva says
For push, I haven’t used them a lot lately thanks to the restrictions added a few months ago. They are actually going to restrict some types of offers this month as well, but we still promote some mobile content offers without issues.
As for pops, we keep running those without problems 🙂

Whats your strategy in minimizing CPA in propeller Ads?
servandosilva says
It’s a very large answer to be written here, but we follow an optimization process that we have developed during years of testing by analyzing the data from our tracker and cutting everything that doesn’t make money.
J says
Hi Servando, will you have a new code soon? If not, i won’t wait it anymore. thanks!
servandosilva says
Hey man. Sorry but this is taking more time as the people went on new year’s holidays.

sisco says
hi Silva please can you tell me which one is the best CPM ads network 2019
servandosilva says
CPM as in monetizing your traffic or buying traffic?
There’s no such thing as “best network” as it all depends on your needs, the type of ads you’re looking for, the geos and verticals you’re monetizing and the performance of your traffic.
Da Belmont says
Whats the best ad network if you have low traffic to start with and want a guarantee of 100% clean family friendly ads and no misleading ads? I tried revenuehits, propellerads and asterra and was dissapointed with ad quality and service.
servandosilva says
If you’re just starting and want 100% family-friendly ads, you should start with Google Adsense 🙂
However, if you have low traffic don’t bother with ads. Work on increasing your traffic before monetizing it first!

can I be your student? I want to learn to make money from CPA
servandosilva says
I don’t have any coaching or courses, sorry.
But feel free to ask anything here or in forums like Afflift and we’ll try to help 🙂
Carlos says
Hello Servando how are you? I like your blog because I’ve learned a lot from CPA with you. One question, I’m using Voluum, when you’re going to filter a campaign, you choose in Voluum the tokens of the traffic source or the tokens that Voluum has by default, for example those of Carrier, OS, Browser, because I’ve seen that the tokens in the traffic source say different information than Volumen, mainly Browser and OS.
servandosilva says
Hi Carlos.
Thanks for your words. If the traffic source has the same tokens as Voluum already includes in its filters, I use the traffic source ones.
The reason is simple. You want to see this data to analyze and optimize your campaigns. And you’re doing optimization on your traffic source, so it makes sense to use their tokens data instead of Voluum’s, even if it doesn’t match 100%.
If the source doesn’t have tokens for whatever filter you’re optimizing feel free to use Voluum’s and see how it works, but always as a second alternative.
hope this helps.
Osama says
Is this coupon valid for old accounts?
servandosilva says
Only for new accounts as most coupons work 🙂
Claudia says
Thanks for the info. Does PropellerAds allows the use of keywords when creating a campaign? Just as you can do it with SelfAdvertiser or RTX?
servandosilva says
Hi Claudia.
No. PropellerAds has site targeting as most pop networks have.
Keywords is something I’ve only seen in networks like RTX or Zeropark/Tonic/SelfAdvertiser which have redirect traffic.
